This week we
got to learn about common modes of transportation that we use on land.
The first
one we learned about was cars.
Our first
activity was playing the Parking Cars game
I gave Miss
M a Parking Car sheet.
The first
thing I did though was I numbered the little car pieces. I thought it would help
by doing that since the board game piece only had numbers in the spots that we
were supposed to put the cars in.
I gave her a
die to roll and identify the number. Then she would park a car in the space
with that number. We also tried to name the different shapes on the car she was
holding. We repeated until all of the cars were in the lots.
We also
played Racecar Matching.
I set all
the cards face down on the floor and then I invited Miss M to play a matching
game and try to match the upper and lowercase letters on the cars.
Another way
we use transportation is with trucks.
We got to
make a little paper truck that was super fun. Mother Goose Time gave us a paper
truck, deli tray, and a straw to assemble it with.
Miss M had
lots of fun finding things to fit inside her truck.
Then we played a delivery truck game.
We talked about who delivers packages to our house. Before playing, I scattered the picture cards around and I got a toy “truck” (bus that we pretended was a truck) that we filled with the picture cards and then we would deliver a picture card to the mailbox with the matching letter.
These were
our vocabulary builder cards we were given. I was really impressed that Miss M
was able to identify all the pictures by name all by herself.
Another form
of transportation on land is by foot.
We got to practice trying to tie the shoe. We made a little shoe out of some chipboard and a shoelace.
This will definitely be something we need to keep practicing but Miss M had fun decorating it.
The last
form of transportation by land that we learned about was by animal.
We talked
about the different types of animals that people can ride and what animals run
very very fast.
Then we
played a Racetrack game.
We tried taking turns rolling the die and counting
spaces to move the pieces along the racetrack to.
